Intercession is defined as the act of intervening on behalf of another or the act of praying for another.

In Revelations 1:6 John the Revelator highlights something quite striking about who we are in Christ. He says we have been made Kings and Priests by Christ Jesus.

The Priests of the Old Testament were a set apart people who ministered unto God on behalf of the Children of Israel. They had the responsibility of being intermediaries between God and the rest of the nation.

Today we have a similar role, we can stand in the gap for others before God in prayers and petitions. We can pray for people and other entities who otherwise cannot pray for themselves for various reasons.

As Priests of God we can pray for unbelievers, the sick, the broken hearted, the nations and cities in which we live. They all require our intercession.

In this month we are to look away from our personal needs and personal challenges and look with compassion on others around us and our world at large.

God is counting on us to be His partners in bringing change, solutions and miracles into our world. This will only happen when we pray.

Romans 8:26 says ”Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered. And he that searcheth the hearts knoweth what is the mind of the Spirit, because he maketh intercession for the saints according to the will of God.“

In verse 28 we see the results of such prayers. All things begin to work for good in the lives of those we have prayed for, in our neighborhoods, in our cities, in our nations and in the world at large.

God has given us the power to make this happen and it is time we do.

Aside from the joy and fulfillment of seeing the impact of your answered prayers for others, there is an additional benefit in praying for others.

In the book of Job, Chapter 42 we see how that God restored all of Job's fortune and more after he prayed for his friends. Likewise, in Genesis 20:17-18, 21:1 we see how Abraham and Sarah conceived after praying for Abimelech and his household to conceive. God will make happen to you and for you what you make happen for others.
